Letchworth lost to Ashby 2-5

[<<] [>>] by Ray Mounfield at Letchworth [^] -> bottom
29th July 2015 (GC - Inter-Club)

This was the third time that Ashby had played Letchworth in this competition. Father and son, Ray and Nick Mounfield again captained their respective teams in this Golf Croquet Inter-Club semi-final.

Two of the morning matches were closely contested, each requiring a third game, with Letchworth gaining early advantage. It could well have been a morning clean sweep by Letchworth, but Ashby fought back well, winning both games, giving them a 2-1 lead at the (rather late) lunch break.

The first two matches of the afternoon to be completed saw Christine winning for Ashby and David for Letchworth. So either Will or Mike could seal matters in Ashby's favour. They both won, but by the narrowest possible margin, each match ending at the thirteenth hoop of their third game.

Ashby had managed to hold on to their narrow morning lead and therefore progress to the final. It was generally agreed that the player of the day had been Christine, who had beaten both of her lower handicap opponents.
