The Woking club was looking at its best for the GC 'C' Class Level tournament played on 17th June 2021. Overnight rain had freshened the lawns and the flower beds bordering Lawns 1 and 2 drew appreciative comments from many of the competitors.
Initially, a small field of 10 played 'all against all' in two blocks of five. No player managed to win all four of their block games, which meant that the semi-final places were decided by the narrowest of margins, with Naomi Whitehead (Cheltenham), Paul Brown (Sussex County), and Sue Nicholls and Ken Hughes (both Cheam) prevailing.
Naomi Whitehead played really well to beat Ken Hughes 7-3 in the first semi-final, but the second semi-final between Paul Brown and Sue Nicholls was a much closer affair with Paul squeezing home 7-6. In the final, played in the long threated rain, Naomi continued to play her elegant, accurate game, which will surely mean her 7 handicap will soon come down. Despite Paul's best efforts Naomi won convincingly by a 7-4 margin.
The all Cheam third place contest saw Sue Nicholls beating her club mate, Ken Hughes, 7-4, rounding off an excellent day's croquet.
