Nicholas Halton won the GC B-Series Tournament at Roehampton

3rd May 2022 (GC)

Players from ten different clubs entered this event. The lawns were as usual fairly fast and initially some players had difficulty in laying up to the hoops sufficiently close. Thomas Halliday and Beryl Hughes were the only two players to win all their block games. Nicholas Halton just squeezed through into the quarter final having won two games on the golden hoop. Sadly, Thomas Halliday fell away unable to win any further games but Beryl Hughes who had the lowest ranking was consistent throughout and made her way into the final having beaten Robert Cook 7-5 and Graham McCausland 7-5. However, the real surprise of the day was Nicholas Halton, who was the only Roehampton competitor, and was fourteenth in the rankings. He beat Thomas Halliday 7-6, which was his third golden hoop victory, in the quarter- final and Tony Elliott in the semi- final 7-5. He played extremely well in the final and beat Beryl Hughes 7-2.
